Exploring Umbria: The Green Heart of Italy
Umbria is the only Italian wine region without access to either the sea or international borders. Perhaps it is for this reason its villages and landscapes seem frozen in time. Affectionately called the “green heart of Italy", this lush and verdant land is filled with wild pigs, dense oak forests, black truffles, grilled meats and delicious wines. Many of its farms are still organized as they were in medieval times producing grains, produce, grapes and olives in an agricultural patchwork that is an essential part of Umbria’s charm.

This two-night post-cruise program is based in the charming hill town of Orvieto. Sitting majestically 1000-feet above the valley floor atop a large chunk of volcanic stone, Orvieto is perfectly preserved and virtually traffic-free. Take a guided tour through the maze of narrow streets, learn about the rich history of the town, and see one of Italy’s most beautiful cathedrals. Over the course of two days you will visit two leading wine producers in the region, learn about the ancients grains that are keeping Italy's traditional pasta alive, and enjoy several wine-paired meals. This program includes accommodation at Orvieto's top hotel , the 4-star Palazzo Piccolomini, as well as transportation to the Rome airport.

Other highlights include:
• Wine-tasting and dinner overlooking the Orvieto’s cathedral
• Visit and cheese tasting at a traditional farm
• Wine-paired lunch at Falesco winery, owned by enologist and CEO of Marchesi Antinori
