Fritz Underground & Ketcham Estate: Wines & Views of Santorini

This shore tour is available to book for all confirmed group members. For a complete description and pricing, contact Food & Wine Trails.

Santorini’s vineyards were shaped the same way the island’s awe-inspiring topography was – by a giant volcanic eruption about 3,600 years ago. The eruption blanketed the island with light pumice gravel, sand, and black lava stone – which eventually helped the grapes become resistant to the phylloxera epidemic that wiped out most of Europe’s vineyards in the late 19th century. As a result, most of the vineyards covering this stunning island are of their original rootstock and more than 100 years old.

Highlights for this tour include a guided tour of the capital city of Fira, wine tasting at a premium winery, including a wine-paired lunch, and free time to explore Oia
