Today’s adventure takes you into a unique part of Italy where three regions come together: Emilia, Tuscany and Liguria. Known as The Land of a Hundred Castles, the area has over a hundred fortifications nestled between the jagged peaks of the Apuan Alps and their dramatic coastlines. Your first stop is Castello di Fosdinovo Malaspina, a beautifully preserved medieval castle that was the residence of the Malaspina family for over 500 years. Dante Algheri, the father of modern-day Italian, was also exiled here. With a guided tour you’ll learn of the castle’s intriguing history as well as its legends of forbidden love. Having developed a thirst, head next to the nearby wine region of Colli di Luni DOC, reputed for its white Vermentino grapes that grow high in the Apennine foothills and are caressed by maritime breezes from the Ligurian Sea giving them excellent freshness and minerality. Here enjoy a visit to the region’s top producer, Cantine Lunae Bosoni. Dedicated to community and biodiversity, this family-run winery provides an immersive experience of art, design and nature. Their estate and wines are a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics creating joy for all the senses. Savor a wine-paired lunch at the winery before returning fully satiated to the ship.
