Joe Coughlin

Growing up amid the vineyards of Amador County, Joe Coughlin has translated his love of the land into a fulfilling career in winemaking. For over 16 years, Joe has dedicated himself to the craft, mastering the art and science of transforming grapes into exceptional wine.

The genesis of Joe's winemaking journey can be traced back to his formative years in Lodi, California, beginning as a harvest intern. Under the mentorship of accomplished winemakers, he learned his craft with a hands-on approach, acquiring invaluable insights that would shape his winemaking philosophy. More recently, Joe enrolled at UC Davis to supplement what he fondly refers to as his "school of hard knocks" experience.

Joe quickly progressed through winemaking roles, learning every aspect of the vineyard and cellar. Now, as Winemaker at Rombauer, Joe takes immense pride in leading our Sierra Foothills production team while also mentoring a new generation of interns. His winemaking philosophy is deeply rooted in respecting the honest expression of the land, and his commitment is evident in every bottle he crafts.
