Portugal is a particularly rewarding place to visit, especially for those interested in wine. The country is small, climactically diverse, and still undiscovered compared to neighboring Spain and France. Many families still make their living from the land, and agiculture has not yet evolved into the corporate enterprise found elsewhere. Port wine is the country's most famous export, but the sunny terraces that support this highly fortified beverage also yield cellarable vintages that compete internationally. Winemakers are proud of their land, their methods and their products. Visitors are treated like members of the family.
